Sellrainer Höhenweg ~ Day 4 ~ Innsbruck Trek

#Photography, Trips
03/10/2020

A journey through Tyrolean beauty

Day 4 of the Innsbruck Trek marked another long yet rewarding stretch as we continued our journey back toward Innsbruck. Starting in the peaceful Mariahilfkapelle in Alt-Peida, we were in for a 13-kilometer adventure that would take us through some of the most picturesque villages and natural landscapes of Tyrol. This would be the longest hike of the trek, but with every step, it was clear why this day deserved a special place in the journey.

A forest trail along Zirmbach stream

The hike began on a serene forest trail that wound along the Zirmbach stream. The soft sounds of flowing water and the tranquil surroundings set a peaceful tone for the day ahead. With the early morning light filtering through the trees, it felt like we were entering a world of quiet beauty, a place where time seemed to slow down. The air was crisp, the forest rich with the scent of pine, and the atmosphere filled with that certain magic that only Tyrol can offer.

Through the mountaineering villages

After a while, we arrived in the charming village of Gries, home to just 600 people. It was a picture-perfect Tyrolean village, complete with flower-decked old farming houses and rustic charm. As we walked through the village, I couldn’t help but pause and admire the beauty of the homes, each one telling a story of generations past. This is where the true heart of the mountains lies ~ among the villages that are tightly connected to the land.

From Gries, the hike continued through more of these mountaineering villages, each one as lovely as the last, offering a glimpse into the simple, rural life that thrives in this part of the world. The trail offered 2.5 hours of unspoiled Tyrolean magic, where every corner held something worth admiring. If you’re into photography, this day will challenge your memory card space ~ there’s beauty everywhere, from the vibrant flowers to the rustic stone walls of the farmhouses.

St. Quirin church and majestic mountain views

The ultimate goal of today’s trek was the St. Quirin Church, perched perfectly in a location that offered sweeping views of the Karwendel, Nordkette, and Patscherkofel mountain ranges. Standing there, surrounded by such awe-inspiring beauty, I found myself overwhelmed. The panoramic vista before me was so stunning that, for a moment, I almost forgot to film it! It’s one of those moments where you’re just lost in the scenery, feeling small yet deeply connected to the mountains that have shaped this region.

The final leg: a meadow path to Oberperfuss

The final part of the hike took us along a gentle meadow path, winding its way through the Tiefental valley. The soft grass underfoot, the cool mountain breeze, and the expansive views made this section a peaceful way to finish off an exhilarating day. From there, we made our way toward Oberperfuss, completing the fourth leg of the trek.

As we reached our destination, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of satisfaction and excitement. Four hikes down, two to go. This trek was turning into a deeply immersive experience, each day offering new challenges, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable moments.
